National Teen Read Week

Son by Lois Lowry

They called her Water Claire. When she washed up on their shore, no one knew that she came from a society where emotions and colors didn’t exist. That she had become a Vessel at age thirteen. That she had carried a Product at age fourteen. That it had been stolen from her body. Claire had a son. But what became of him she never knew. What was his name? Was he even alive? She was supposed to forget him, but that was impossible. Now Claire will stop at nothing to find her child, even if it means making an unimaginable sacrifice.

Birthmarked Trilogy by Caragh M. O'Brien

In the future, in a world baked dry by the harsh sun, there are those who live inside the wall and those, like sixteen-year-old midwife, Gaia Stone, who live outside. Gaia has always believed it is her duty, with her mother, to hand over a small quota of babies to the Enclave. But when Gaia’s mother and father are arrested by the very people they so dutifully serve, Gaia is forced to question everything she has been taught to believe. Gaia’s choice is now simple: enter the world of the Enclave to rescue her parents, or die trying.

Insignia by S.J. Kincaid

Tom, a 14-year-old genius at virtual reality games, is recruited by the United States military to begin training at the Pentagon Spire as a Combatant in World War III, controlling the mechanized drones that do the actual fighting off-planet.

Divergent Series by Veronica Roth

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the YA scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

Inklings Bookshop Online Store

Shop Online / Free Wifi!

Welcome to Inklings Bookshop! Inklings, a proudly independent bookshop, is a place set aside for books and their friends where you can enter the world of inspiration, ideas and prose. Inklings borrowed its name from the Inklings of Oxford, a group of literary friends who met regularly in a pub called the Eagle and Child to share the words that flowed from their hearts, through their hands to others. Their circle of writing, reading and encouragement helped make C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkein, Dorothy Sayers, G.K. Chesterton and others among the great thinkers, philosophers, and communicators of their time. We are proud to carry their name.

In this, our eleventh year, we are pleased to offer you an opportunity to access the world of books through our website portal even after the lights in the store have been turned off for the night. Think of it as a place, like the Eagle and Child, where ideas never sleep, where the refreshment keeps coming and ideas are born and nurtured.

Our brick-and-mortar store, at 56th and Summitview in Yakima, WA, is open 7 days a week, Monday through Saturday from 9am to 9pm and Sunday from 12-6. So, with this website, I guess we've just extended our hours, in a sense, to being open online 24 hours a day. So, welcome. you are among friends.

Vision

There's more to a bookstore than the books on the shelves. When you buy a book from Inklings Bookshop, part of the price you pay goes to:

  • Support our friendly, hardworking, knowledgeable staff
  • Support programs on local public radio station Northwest Public Radio
  • Support local schools and teachers
  • Support dozens of national & international charities and service organizations

No part of the price you pay goes to:

  • Remote corporate headquarters where decisions are based solely on maximizing profits
  • Absentee owners who don't work in the store or live in the community

At Inklings Bookshop we are dedicated to doing business as a responsible member of our community in a manner that results in making a modest profit without exploiting anyone.

When you shop at Inklings Bookshop you join with us in building community.
